Arup is looking for a leader with a strong background in the Science buildings sector to join our team in Canada. This individual can reside in any of our Canadian offices: Toronto, Montreal or Calgary. We are looking for a candidate who can provide technical expertise, business development, and client relationship management to reinforce this established business and to unlock broader Science based opportunities.

Our ideal candidate will provide strong leadership, management, and technical skills relevant to the Science business. Along with this, they will play a meaningful role in the future growth and development of the life science market in Canada and more widely across the Americas region. As part of the senior leadership team, this individual will contribute to the overall management of our members in Canada.

Responsibilities:

Maintain regular contact with existing key client/partners and proactively develop new relationships. Handle these relationships by Sharing information, obtaining feedback, understanding their needs, managing expectations, and seeking out new opportunities.
Actively network, bringing in people, opportunities, and activities to unlock projects and build new partnerships.
Represent Arup at the highest levels in Canada and beyond, promoting Arup Science expertise and ensuring we are seen as thought leaders, innovators, and a partner of choice in the science and research marketplace.
Develop and implement of a science business strategy; ensuring this strategy aligns with the overarching Arup regional and Global business strategies.
Setting and meeting agreed financial performance metrics
Promote an environment for the firm that provides learning from challenges and successes.
Construct tactical recommendations, decisions, and systems improvements that enhance the performance of the team.
Act as a liaison for project details to project clients, stakeholders and partners
Manage project meetings with all involved with the projects; including but not limited to stakeholders, Arup leadership, clients and partners.
Predict and plan for all future resources needed to complete projects and bring the ability to be held accountable for financial performance. Negotiate contracts and conditions of engagement for Arup services to minimize risk and maximize the value that the firm can deliver.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Engineering; Mechanical Engineering degree preferred.
15+ years' experience in the built environment.
10+ years experience in project delivery in the Science sector such as laboratories, R&D facilities, pharma, etc.
Professional Engineering license in Canada.
Experience in management and business development, with exceptional team leadership
Demonstrated strong commercial savvy and financial skills.
Demonstrated communication, negotiation, influencing, and presentation skills.
Experience in the application of Canadian Building Codes and Standards.

Toronto Hiring Range - The good faith base salary hiring range for this job if performed in Toronto is $175,000 to $225,000 per year. Benefits are not included in the base salary. Please note hiring ranges for candidates performing work outside of Toronto will differ.

Dans le cadre de ses fonctions, le candidat retenu sera notamment charge de diriger, d'encadrer et de conseiller sur le plan technique le secteur de la science. En tant que membre de l'equipe de la haute direction, il prendra egalement part a la gestion de l'equipe au Canada.

Responsabilites

Maintenir des rapports continus avec les clients et les partenaires actuels et developper de nouvelles relations de maniere proactive, notamment en echangeant de l'information, en cernant les besoins, en gerant les attentes et en recherchant activement de nouvelles opportunities;
Participer assidument a des activities de reseautage, organiser des evenements et susciter des rencontres menant a d'eventuels mandats et partenariats;
Representer Arup sur l'echiquier canadien et mondial en faisant valoir son expertise scientifique et son positionnement de chef de file eclaire, novateur et prise sur les marches de la science et de la recherche;
elaborer et mettre en oeuvre une strategie d'affaires pour le secteur de la science en veillant a son harmonisation avec les strategies regionales et globales d'Arup;
Fixer et atteindre les parametres de performance financiere convenus;
Promouvoir, au sein de l'organisation, un environnement favorisant l'apprentissage a partir des reussites et des defis;
Formuler des recommandations strategiques, prendre des decisions eclairees et ameliorer les systemes afin d'accroitre le rendement de l'equipe;
Assurer la liaison avec les clients, les partenaires et les parties prenantes en ce qui concerne les projets;
Organiser les reunions pertinentes avec l'ensemble des participants aux projets, notamment les parties prenantes, les membres de la direction d'Arup, les clients et les partenaires;
Prevoir et planifier l'ensemble des ressources necessaires a la realisation des projets et rendre compte de la performance financiere de l'equipe;
Negocier les differents contrats et les conditions d'embauche visant les services d'Arup, en veillant a minimiser les risques et a accroitre la valeur de notre offre.

Qualifications

Baccalaureat en genie, de preference en genie mecanique;
Au moins 15 ans d'experience au sein de l'environnement bati;
Au moins 10 ans d'experience dans la livraison de projets pour le secteur de la science, notamment pour des laboratoires, des compagnies pharmaceutiques ou de recherche et developpement;
Titre d'ingenieur reconnu au Canada;
Vaste experience en gestion et en developpement des affaires, doublee de solides competences en gestion d'equipes;
Sens aigu des affaires et des finances;
Fortes aptitudes a communiquer, a negocier, a influencer et a presenter de maniere convaincante;
Experience dans l'application des normes et des codes canadiens du batiment et de la construction.
